Why I Love... Organization

Today's Why I Love... Wednesday is coming to you from the wonderful Kelsey of Capital Barbie.  Aside from loving her blog, I also dig that she's also practically my neighbor, as she's a D.C. lady.  If you'd like to contribute to a future Why I Love... post, please contact me.

Hey lovebugs! I’m Kelsey from the Capital Barbie and I want to thank Melissa for letting me be a part of "Why I Love" Wednesdays!  When I thought about what to write for “Why I Love” I wanted to pick something near and dear to me, but that wasn’t a physical possession.  Hope you enjoy and thanks for reading!

For me, organizing is like one of my vital signs.  It has a quiet pulse that is strong and steady when I have everything in order, but when I’m unprepared or dealing with a mess it’s much like being on the set of ER when Dr. Kovach can’t stop a bleeding wound.  Or that sound that submarines make when they’re taking on water? You know that red light that flashes and makes…ok like this:

I love organizing because it allows me to have everything under control and understand what’s coming next.  Think I’m crazy?  Take for instance, the to-do list.  Often an overlooked and outdated piece of paper but in honesty it is worth so much! It’s a grocery list, a packing list, a DVD rental list, etc.  It has everything you know you need to do and then comes the best part.  Ready?  When you have the item or have completed the task- you get to cross it out, check it off, or whatever else your little heart desires!  It’s the little things here, stay with me people.

But organization doesn’t just have to come from lists.  It can also showcase your personality.  An organized office space is one that expresses who you are but it also gives a specific place for each item.

Organization can come in a variety of colors, patterns, and styles and it’s up to you to pick what works best.

Think of it this way.  You work hard, I know you do, because you’re reading this blog and that means you’re a tough girl who likes nice things and is proud of who you are.  And more power to you girlfriend.   Now why not know exactly where your hard earned money is going? Why not track your spending and plan ahead?  You’ll have a wonderful little savings account to look forward to and you won’t be worrying about rent time because you’ve planned for it.  You’re ready.  You’re organized.

Ok, so you’ve spent some of your money.  Good! You deserve it.  Now, if you’re me, it went to clothes, shoes, or food (in that order).  So why not organize all of your great stuff like this?  Isn’t that gorgeous?

Organization brings me peace of mind.  I can get in bed at night and not go through what I forgot to do today, because look out world; I’m on top of it.  I can impress people with my preparedness and even go the extra mile because, hey, I’ve budgeted the time!

I’m the kind of girl who likes to know.  Schedules, timetables, layouts, room plans, attendance, calendars, need I continue?  Our lives are stressful.  We’ve got work 24/7 since the pesky invention of the blackberry.  We need to balance work, play, and self in a way that makes everyone happy.  But most importantly remember to make yourself happy.  Organize yourself, your priorities, and your goals.  Everything else will fall into place.

  1. I'm a compulsive organizer - give me a closet or grocery list and it will be organized by season and color or by aisle! Great Why I Love... post!

  14. I totally relate to this one! I come home from work and all I want to do is organize something. It just feels so good to have things in order and find new ways to make things efficient. Love it! I really love that closet too...although that is only a fraction of the amount of clothes I have in mine.

  16. You had me at Dr. Kovach. Great Post. No ones flies a plane, builds a house, plants a garden, or cooks a holiday dinner without a plan or checklist. And let's face it girls, we all look best when we've planned the outfit, accessories, make-up and oooooh child, don't forget the fragrance. Head to toe,the total package.I was going to cross reading today's blog off my list, but I think I am going to print and keep this one as a reminder. Thanks!
